Mike,

One option you might want to consider for part of your clients bond allocation, is a firm called Asset Dedication. It is really an application of Liability Driven Investment, and is trying to immunize client liabilities over a certain time frame, at the lowest cost in terms of funds needed to be devoted to it from the portfolio. The rest of the portfolio can be given over to growth (which can include bonds or bond funds.)

By the way. Since we share a common market area (Greater Baton Rouge) we should get together sometime. I would love to talk shop.

Lance,
Thanks for all your comments. I met a mutual acquaintance of ours, Whit W. and understand you had dinner with him recently. He speaks well of you and yes, I'd like to get together sometime and chat. I wish you well on your new journey!

Zachary,
I have completely converted my whole office to Macs. I don't have any problems with most vendors. I do however have a couple of companies that refuse to see the (mac) light and must use a program called "Parallels", which allows you to run windows inside your Mac.

Hi Zach,
Unfortunately, I have no idea since I've always used a PC. You should ask the vendors of those programs you like.
Good luck.

Just a quick tech question that is not even related to this post, but with the growing popularity of Mac computers, do you know of many RIAs using Macs to run their businesses? If not, why is that? Are most of the programs (portfolio mgmt, reporting, CRM, etc.) able to be used on Macs?

Thanks,
